Karthäuserhof 2019 Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Großes Gewächs
$93.99
Focused and mineral, with ripe apple and pear joined by lemongrass, delicate green tea and a faint honeyed note. The palate is dry and powerful but finely drawn, its lively acidity carrying slate-like salinity through an exceptionally long finish. Give this structured Riesling a brief decant and serve with shellfish, roast poultry, freshwater fish or gently spiced dishes.

About Karthäuserhof
Karthäuserhof's story reaches back to 1335, when Baldwin of Luxembourg gave land at Eitelsbach to the Carthusian order and the monks established a vineyard there. After secularization, Valentin Leonardy purchased the property in 1811, beginning the family ownership that now extends to a seventh generation.
The twenty-hectare Karthäuserhofberg vineyard belongs entirely to the estate and was ranked in the top category of the Royal Prussian vineyard classification of 1868. Its steep slope faces south to south-southwest, with soils of weathered Devon slate. The vineyards are worked according to biodynamic principles.
