About Château Trotanoy
Château Trotanoy takes its name from an old expression meaning “too wearisome,” a wry reference to Pomerol clay that becomes exceptionally hard as it dries. Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired the property in 1953. Its 7.2 hectares occupy a west-facing rise, moving from gravel over clay at the highest point to dense black clay above an iron-rich layer lower down. The current vineyard is planted entirely to Merlot, with an average vine age of about thirty-five years. After manual picking and two rounds of sorting, fermentation takes place in small concrete or stainless-steel vats, followed by sixteen to eighteen months’ maturation in French oak, around half new.
