About Clos des Menuts
Clos des Menuts carries two distinct histories, and keeping them separate is part of telling the estate’s story honestly. Its written trail reaches back to 1538, when the Friars Minor of Saint-Émilion recorded the sale of a barrel associated with the Menuts name. The Rivière chapter began in 1956, when Jean Edmond Andrieu gave the property to his daughter and son-in-law Pierre Rivière; a younger generation joined the family enterprise during the 2010s.
The property sits close to Saint-Émilion’s medieval walls, with monolithic cellars cut beneath the village providing a naturally steady environment for barrel maturation. Current practice combines hand harvesting, concrete fermentation and barrel ageing, and the vineyard is listed by the Saint-Émilion body as Haute Valeur Environnementale certified. It is an unusually tangible Saint-Émilion address, where a family estate, a working town cellar and centuries of local memory meet without needing to blur who owned what, or when.
