This Reserva tinto is really a steal for the price. Made up of mostly of the Baga varietal native to coastal Portugal, known for its’ thick skins and punchy tannin; it is earthy, with a strong nose of tobacco, elegant nutmeg spice, loads of dark fruit, and delicate, beachy wafts at the end. This is a wine to enjoy after a long day in the mountains, with a perfectly cooked steak.

About Caves Sao Joao
Founded in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, it remains today the oldest family owned winery in the region. The family began to sell DOC wines in the 1950s creating two of the most celebrated Portuguese brands: FREI JOÃO from Bairrada and PORTA DOS CAVALEIROS from the Dão. A half century later they boast one of the most varied and exceptional sparkling wine programs in the country.

Coquard Chiroubles 2019

100% Gamay from the Chiroubles appellation in Beaujolais. This is one of the smallest appellations and also one of the most elevated, with some vineyards rising over 450m above sea level.
The 2019 presents lovely purple florals and crisp red fruit. Imagine fresh picked cherry meets a lavender bloom. These aromas are folded into a soft bed of silky fine tannins. Enjoy this wine young or let it develop up to 2029.
