About Stiegl
Stiegl first appears in Salzburg’s records in 1492, under the name Prewhaus. Its later name refers to the small steps beside the old brewhouse, where water was drawn from the Almkanal. The Huemer-Kiener family took over in 1887, and the brewery remains independent and family-owned.
Goldbräu, its golden Austrian-style Märzen, was registered as a name in 1912 in recognition of medals won by earlier beers. Alongside its lagers, Stiegl makes Radlers blended with citrus juice.
