Maison Kuehn 2023 Les Caves de l’Enfer Riesling

Lime and linden blossom appear in a dry profile with lively acidity. Residual sugar is two grams per litre, total acidity is 6.6 grams per litre and alcohol is eleven-and-a-half percent. Fruit for this cuvée comes from parcels around Ammerschwihr on mainly clay-limestone or alluvial soils. Pressing is pneumatic, and the wine spends several months on fine lees.

About Maison Kuehn
Maison Kuehn was founded in Ammerschwihr, Alsace, in 1675. Baron Jean-Jacques de Schiele had its Caves de l'Enfer dug into the rock in the late eighteenth century for winemaking and ageing in large oak casks. During the fighting around the Colmar Pocket in 1944 and 1945, those deep cellars sheltered about a hundred local residents as much of the town was destroyed.
Today the house works with twelve hectares of estate vineyards and a further thirty hectares through partner growers, mainly around Ammerschwihr. Its vineyard work emphasizes yield control and biodiversity across soils ranging from granite and sandstone to limestone and marl.
