About Hofbräu München
Hofbräu München began in 1589, when Duke Wilhelm V established a court brewery to supply Bavaria’s ruling household. A second brewhouse followed at the Platzl in 1607, and the brewery gained permission to sell to the public in 1610. It became Bavarian state property in 1852 and moved production to Riem in 1988.
Brewing starts with water drawn from the brewery’s own well, approximately 150 metres deep. Malt is sourced largely from Bavaria, hops come from Hallertau, and the brewery maintains its own yeast cultures for both top- and bottom-fermented beers.
