Forest berries and dried herbs open with an earthy, lightly smoky edge. The palate is firmly structured, carrying blackcurrant and crushed blackberry beneath measured oak and fine-grained tannins. Savoury detail keeps the dark fruit composed through the persistent finish. Decant before serving with roast beef, lamb or aged hard cheese.

About Cakebread Cellars
A photography assignment brought Jack Cakebread to Napa Valley in 1972, where he and Dolores used a $2,500 book advance as the down payment on a Rutherford ranch. They founded Cakebread Cellars in 1973, and its first wine was a small release of Chardonnay from that vintage. The family’s involvement now spans three generations.
Its vineyards now stretch from Napa’s varied districts to cool Anderson Valley, with gentle cellar work intended to preserve their differences. Food remains part of the winery’s character, from Dolores Cakebread’s garden and cookbooks to its welcoming approach to hospitality. The winery is Napa Green certified.
