About Heiwa Shuzo
Heiwa Shuzo was founded in 1928 by Tamotsu Yamamoto in Kainan, Wakayama. Wartime orders forced the brewery to suspend production, and the second generation later campaigned for permission to begin making sake again. The name Heiwa, meaning peace, grew from that hope of brewing once more in a peaceful era.
After decades supplying larger Kyoto houses, the family shifted its attention back to its own labels near the end of the 1980s. Its brewers plant and tend sake rice with local growers, while Wakayama-grown fruit is used for its liqueurs. The brewery makes sake, fruit liqueurs and craft beer.
