About Latour-Martillac
A surviving tower from a twelfth-century fort gives Château Latour-Martillac its name; the stronghold once guarded the road between Bordeaux and Toulouse. Bordeaux merchant Edouard Kressmann was drawn to the property's white wines in 1871, and his son Alfred acquired the estate in 1930. Alfred adopted the Latour-Martillac name to distinguish the property from Château Latour in the Médoc. In 1953, Latour-Martillac was classified among the Graves growths for both its red and white wines. Alfred and Jean Kressmann designed its gold-and-sand striped Art Deco label in the early 1930s. The modern cellar uses gravity-fed vats.
