Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1982 Saint-Julien
Classic and commanding, with blackcurrant, cedar, lead pencil and forest-floor notes unfolding over tobacco and spice. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, yet vibrant, with cassis and blackberry held by firm, mature tannins and a clear mineral line. Time in the glass brings greater lift and aromatic detail without softening its structure entirely. The finish is exceptionally long and intense, carrying dark fruit, cigar box and cool savoury depth.
Caves Sao Joao 1982 Dao Porta dos Cavaleiros
Light garnet with pronounced bricking opens slowly into dried red cherry, currant, hickory, mulch, wet hay, sweet cedar and worn leather. The palate is mature but alive, with resolved tannins and medium acidity carrying savoury red fruit, tobacco, coffee bean and cigar-box detail. Give it twenty to thirty minutes in the glass; stand upright beforehand and open carefully, as older corks may be fragile.
Château Mouton Rothschild 1982 Pauillac
Flamboyant and richly aromatic, with black currant, blackberry and cherry liqueur layered with cigar box, tobacco, mint, flowers, smoked meat and spice. The palate is full and concentrated, yet finely balanced, combining fresh acidity with silky tannins and an exceptionally long, harmonious finish. Decant for two to three hours and serve with roast turkey, beef or mushroom dishes.
Château Lafite Rothschild 1982 Pauillac
Deeply aromatic and still beautifully composed, with red currant, cherry and cassis framed by cedar, tobacco, cigar wrapper and warm spice. The palate is silky and precise rather than weighty, carrying mature earth and leafy complexity through a fresh, persistent finish. Stand upright and decant gently for about an hour, watching for bottle variation, then serve with lamb, veal or mushrooms.
