AboutYamaguchi Shuzojo
Yamaguchi Sake Brewery began in Kitano, Fukuoka, in 1832 with a brewing licence from the Arima domain. Tetsuo Yamaguchi became its eleventh head in 2003.
In 1975, the brewery removed large-scale equipment and refocused on junmai and other premium sake styles. Its Niwa no Uguisu range includes fresh seasonal releases and matured sake, while its plum liqueurs are made with the brewery’s own sake-lees shochu.
Niwa no Uguisu Tomari Umeshu 720 mL
Fragrant ripe plum leads a concentrated, fruit-driven aroma, with a quiet savoury undertone from the sake-lees shochu base. The palate is rich but notably dry for the style, balancing deep plum extract with clean acidity and a gentle almond-like grip. A smooth texture carries into a persistent, lightly tangy finish. Serve chilled, over ice, or with soda alongside salty or grilled dishes.
