AboutWeingut Weninger

Franz Reinhard Weninger works on both sides of the Austrian-Hungarian border, with the family cellar in Horitschon, Burgenland, and vineyards around Balf in Sopron. The family has been recorded at its Horitschon address since 1828, and Franz Ludwig expanded into Hungary in the 1990s. Blaufränkisch—known as Kékfrankos in Hungary—is the focus, grown on clay and limestone in Austria and slate-rich sites in Hungary.

The vineyards retain EU organic certification and are farmed with biodynamic practices. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and gentle extraction are used with wooden vessels, concrete and amphorae.
