AboutWakefield
Wakefield Wines grew from the Taylor family’s work as Sydney wine merchants and a late-1950s partnership with the Clare Valley Co-operative. In 1969, Bill Taylor found the site beside the Wakefield River that became the family estate. Three generations remain involved, with Mitchell Taylor chairing the company.
Vineyard work includes mulching with organic matter, grazing sheep in winter and precision irrigation. The winery recycles water and has undertaken restoration along seven kilometres of the Upper Wakefield River.
Wakefield 2023 Shiraz
Stewed plum, blackberry and black cherry lead, with liquorice, violet and black pepper adding lift and spice. The palate is full-bodied and generous, balancing ripe dark fruit with fine tannins, fresh acidity and measured notes of mocha and cedar. Smooth through the finish, it suits grilled beef, lamb, hearty stews or firm, savoury cheeses.
