The Álvarez family created Alión in 1991 as a distinct Ribera del Duero winery within the Tempos Vega Sicilia group. Its name refers to the León birthplace of the family patriarch, while the winery itself stands near Peñafiel about fifteen kilometres from Vega Sicilia. Alión was designed to express Tempranillo through a contemporary project rather than serve as a second label for Vega Sicilia.
Early vintages were made at Vega Sicilia before a dedicated winery and vineyard programme gave Alión an independent production base. Fruit comes from several parts of Ribera del Duero, and selection and maturation change with each vintage. Alión remains an independent Ribera del Duero winery within the Álvarez family’s Tempos Vega Sicilia group.

Blackberry, plum and dark cherry lead a concentrated, finely layered bouquet. Violet adds aromatic lift, while cocoa, roasted coffee and vanilla bring polished oak detail. The palate is generous yet controlled, with dense fruit carried by fresh acidity and firm, well-shaped tannins. Long and savoury, it finishes with dark berries, toast, spice and a clear mineral note.
