AboutVasques de Carvalho

Vasques de Carvalho grew from a family wine business in the Douro dating to the mid-nineteenth century. The family sold part of its fortified wine to export houses and kept the rest to age, becoming Port merchants by the mid-twentieth century.

The family’s three old vineyard parcels near Peso da Régua in the Baixo Corgo were planted with a mix of grape varieties. Aged Ports remain a focus, alongside unfortified Douro wines.

Vasques de Carvalho 2015 Oxum Tinto

Portuguese Red
$52.99

Black cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry lead, with dark chocolate, roasted tones and a charcoal edge. The palate is full-bodied and fresh, its ripe fruit carried by firm, marked tannins rather than the soft, rounded profile previously shown. This is a structured Douro red with savoury depth and a persistent finish; serve with roast lamb, braised beef or game.
