Miguel Queimado knew Monção e Melgaço through his grandparents’ vineyard work long before he began making Alvarinho as Vale dos Ares. The vines grow at Quinta do Mato, which has belonged to his family since 1683. He began reworking the vineyard parcels in 2006, restored the old family cellar in 2012 and launched Vale dos Ares in 2013. The family project focuses on Alvarinho and the differences between its vineyard parcels.

Rich tropical fruit arrives first, with honeyed citrus, peach and apricot adding depth without sacrificing freshness. The palate is smooth and mouth-filling, but a bright mineral line keeps the generous fruit focused. Dry and lightly tart through the finish, it closes cleanly with lingering stone fruit and citrus.
