AboutTwo Hands Wines

Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz founded Two Hands Wines in 1999 to explore the differences between Australian Shiraz from individual regions and vineyards. Their first vintage, in 2000, used just seventeen tonnes of grapes.

Today, the winery combines its own vineyards in the Barossa’s western ranges with fruit from growers in McLaren Vale, the Adelaide Hills, Eden Valley, Heathcote and Clare Valley. Grapes from different parcels are kept separate in the cellar, with blind tastings of every barrel six months after vintage guiding the selection for each wine. In the estate vineyards, compost, cover crops and careful water monitoring are part of the farming routine.

Two Hands 2005 Ares Shiraz

Australian Red
$249.99
Ripe plum, blueberry and blackcurrant lead with raspberry and blackberry, followed by coffee, dark chocolate, smoke and liquorice. The palate is dense and full-bodied, yet unusually precise, with concentrated fruit carried by a refined texture. Cedar, vanilla and a savoury earthy note add depth without obscuring the fruit. The finish is long and layered, lingering on dark berries, chocolate, smoke and fine spice.
