Sommelier and winemaker Mireille Sauvé created The Wine Umbrella in British Columbia, bringing together her work in the cellar and in wine education. She began working with Okanagan wineries in 1996 and founded her consulting business in 2005. Her small-production bottlings raise funds for the British Columbia chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier, supporting scholarships for women in food and beverage. The project has a winemaking home and partnership at Lakeboat Vineyard & Winery.
The Wine Umbrella 2022 Chardonnay
Canadian White
Ripe tropical fruit, candied lemon and freshly cut pineapple meet a mostly dry, fresh palate, with modest richness at the finish. Chardonnay from Oliver is partially matured in American oak. The release carries the BC VQA Okanagan Valley designation. These fundraising bottlings raise money for scholarships supporting women in British Columbia’s food and beverage fields through Les Dames d’Escoffier.
The Wine Umbrella 2020 Co-Syrah
Canadian Red
Black plum and black raspberry sit near the edge of sweetness, with pepper, super-ripe fruit aromas and flavours, a silky texture and a long, smooth delivery. The blend is ninety-one percent Syrah and nine percent Viognier. It is a juicy, weighty red. A portion of the profit supports the British Columbia chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier and its charitable work.
