AboutSpeyburn Distillery
Whisky merchant John Hopkins founded Speyburn in 1897 in a wooded valley near Rothes. Architect Charles Doig fitted the distillery into the steep site over three levels, using gravity to help move water and spirit. Hopkins wanted to fill a cask in Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee year, and the first spirit was collected on 31 December 1897 while the building was still unfinished.
The distillery draws its water from the Granty Burn and still mills its malted barley in a Boby mill. Its whiskies include bourbon-, sherry- and rum-cask expressions.
Speyburn 10 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Fresh orange and red apple lead a bright, orchard-fruit aroma, warmed by cinnamon and soft vanilla. The palate is fuller than the light nose suggests, layering apple pie, creamy toffee and butterscotch over a smooth malt core. Citrus keeps the sweetness in balance while gentle oak adds definition. The finish is long, rounded and vanilla-led. Serve neat or with a small measure of water alongside shortbread or aged cheddar.
Speyburn 18 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Sweet toffee and dark chocolate lead a layered nose, followed by candied almond and ripe tropical fruit. The palate is creamy and full, bringing chocolate, caramel, gentle cinnamon and candied orange into a long, warming finish. American and Spanish oak maturation adds depth without obscuring the fruit. Enjoy it neat or with a little water.
