AboutSoalheiro

João António Cerdeira planted Alvarinho in Melgaço in 1974 with his parents and his wife, Palmira. The sunny vineyard gave Soalheiro its name, and experiments in the family garage led to the first wine in 1982. The company remains family-owned, led by Palmira and her daughter Maria João Cerdeira.

Soalheiro works with small family vineyards across Monção e Melgaço through its growers’ club. Its Alvarinho wines explore different approaches, from stainless-steel fermentation to ageing on fine lees and a little oak in selected bottlings.

Citrus and concentrated tropical fruit meet floral character and mineral notes. The palate is dry, medium-bodied, textured and fresh, with a dense finish. Alvarinho is hand harvested from granite soils in Vinho Verde. Production includes pressing, forty-eight hours of cold settling and two months of stainless-steel fermentation at eighteen degrees. The wine also receives bâtonnage.
