Schug Winery

Schug Winery’s Pinot Noir story reaches back to Germany’s Rheingau, where Walter Schug’s father managed an estate and made wine from the steep Assmannshausen Höllenberg vineyard in the 1920s. Walter graduated from Geisenheim in 1959 before moving to California. His career included a role as founding winemaker at Joseph Phelps; he established his own label in 1980 and later built the family’s Carneros estate winery.

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay remain the centre of the range, drawing on cool, windy sites across Carneros and the Sonoma Coast. Johannes Scheid is the winemaker.
