AboutHerdade do Rocim
Herdade do Rocim occupies roughly 120 hectares between Vidigueira and Cuba in Baixo Alentejo, including about seventy hectares of vineyard and ten hectares of olive trees. The nearby Vidigueira fault and its east-west escarpment help moderate the climate. Clay-loam and sandy soils carry a broad mix of local and international grapes, with Alicante Bouschet prominent among the red plantings and Antão Vaz, Arinto and Verdelho among the whites.
Cellar work follows a minimal-intervention approach, with wild yeasts used for both varietal wines and field blends. Modern equipment sits beside older Alentejo practices, including fermentation in clay talha and foot treading in stone lagares, with decisions taken separately for each wine. Wines mature in vessels including large barrels, terracotta and cement amphorae, with new wood used selectively.
