AboutQuerciabella

Querciabella began in 1974, when Giuseppe ‘Pepito’ Castiglioni bought a small property at Ruffoli above Greve in Chianti. The estate later added vineyards and a purpose-built cellar, expanding from Chianti Classico into coastal Maremma. Mita Castiglioni and her children Andrea and Selene now care for the estate.

Querciabella moved to organic cultivation in 1988, began working biodynamically in 2000 and removed animal-derived inputs from vineyard and cellar in 2010. Cover crops and attention to soil life are part of that vineyard work, alongside a low-intervention approach in the cellar.

Dark cherry, violets and berries appear on the nose and palate. The finish is fresh. The blend is ninety-five percent Sangiovese and five percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is made from biodynamic grapes, comes from Chianti Classico in Tuscany and is listed at thirteen-and-a-half percent alcohol.
