AboutPodere Pradarolo
The Carretti family bought Podere Pradarolo in 1972 as a mixed farm near Varano de’ Melegari, in Emilia-Romagna’s lower Ceno Valley. Alberto Carretti began its gradual conversion to winegrowing in 1989. About nine of the property’s roughly sixty hectares are vineyards, set in a south-facing natural amphitheatre.
The vineyards are farmed organically, using copper and sulphur treatments, with an emphasis on local grape varieties. Fermentation begins with native yeasts, and extended skin contact is used for selected wines, with ageing tailored to each release.
Podere Pradarolo 2013 Velius Rosso
Italian Red
Ruby in colour with violet tones, the wine offers persistent fruit, pronounced acidity and evident tannins. It is made entirely from organically grown Barbera on clay-loam soils with active limestone. Maceration lasts about ninety days with native yeasts and no sulphur. The wine spends fifteen months in large oak, followed by at least six months in bottle, and is bottled without filtration or stabilization.
