AboutPaternoster
Paternoster began in Barile in 1925, when winegrower Anselmo Paternoster bottled his first Aglianico for sale. His son Giuseppe, known as Pino, helped secure recognition for Aglianico del Vulture DOC in 1971. Fourth-generation winemaker Fabio Mecca Paternoster works with Tommasi Family Estates, which joined the winery in 2016.
The vineyards lie on Mount Vulture’s volcanic slopes, with cool nights and pronounced day-to-night temperature changes. Grapes from each vineyard plot are made into wine separately before blending and maturation.
Paternoster 2017 Vulcanico Falanghina Basilicata IGT
Italian White
Bright straw yellow with green reflections, this Falanghina offers delicate white flowers and light fruit. The palate is fresh and balanced, with a clean finish and gentle persistence. Fermentation and maturation take place in stainless steel. The grapes come from Basilicata around Monte Vulture. The dry white is bottled at thirteen percent alcohol and suits an aperitif, fish, vegetables or fresh cheese.
Paternoster 2013 Don Anselmo Aglianico del Vulture DOC
Italian Red
Bright, deep ruby in colour, with red fruit, leather, balsamic herbs and dark spice on a broad, complex nose. The palate is dry, powerful and structured, combining an earthy, brooding character with pure fruit and a mineral core. Elegant through its weight, it closes with balance and exceptional length.
