AboutNikolaihof
Nikolaihof stands in Mautern, where Roman foundations and later religious buildings form part of the estate’s historic setting. Anton and Anna Saahs acquired the property in 1894, and the family has carried it forward through successive generations. Nikolaus and Christine Saahs began biodynamic cultivation in 1971.
The vineyards are Demeter-certified, and the grapes are harvested by hand. Gentle pressing and indigenous-yeast fermentation are followed by ageing in large, old Austrian oak casks, sometimes for many years.
Nikolaihof 2002 Riesling Vinothek
Austrian White
Flint, baked apple and fresh apple open with mint, lanolin and a distinctly herbal lift. The palate is taut, fresh and poised, showing remarkable liveliness within a deep, contemplative profile. A slender line of acidity keeps the texture vivid, while firm, lightly astringent structure adds definition. The finish is long, spicy and crystalline, carrying herbs, apple and mineral detail with refined persistence.
