AboutNicolas Maillart

The Maillart family traces its work in Champagne vineyards to 1703, and Nicolas Maillart represents the ninth generation. After studying engineering and winemaking, he returned to the estate in 2003 and now works vineyards around Écueil, Bouzy and Villers-Allerand on the Montagne de Reims. Pinot Noir leads the plantings, supported by Chardonnay and smaller parcels of Meunier and Petit Meslier.

The estate ploughs its soils, uses organic fertilizers and maintains grassed parcels. Vineyard parcels are fermented separately in tank or barrel, with reserve wines used in the non-vintage blends. Solar panels installed in 2009 produce the equivalent of the winery’s electricity use.

French Sparkling
$129.99
Red apple and ripe pear lead with Meyer lemon, yellow fruit and a delicate rose note. The palate is precise and vinous, its fine bead carrying fresh citrus over a firm mineral line. Toast, almond paste, vanilla and pastry add mature richness to the balanced, persistent finish.
