AboutMusso

Musso has made wine in Barbaresco since 1929, when Sebastiano Musso became the first in his vine-growing family to make and sell wines under the family name. His son Augusto returned from Turin in the 1960s and began selling the wines abroad. Valter now directs vineyard and cellar work, while his son Emanuele, who joined formally in 2015, leads the company.

At Pora, Nebbiolo grows on west- to south-west-facing slopes with calcareous and clay soils. The Pora wines spend an extended time on their skins before ageing in large oak. Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis are also part of the range.

Musso 2020 Brua Barbera d’Alba Superiore

Italian Red
$51.99
Bitter almond, violet candy and a hint of liquorice appear in the aromas. The palate is velvety, with red fruit, structure, body, light tannins and lively bitter notes. Grapes are destemmed and softly crushed before stainless-steel fermentation with maceration and frequent pump-overs. Ageing lasts about two years in large casks and five-hundred-litre tonneaux. The wine contains 15.5 percent alcohol.

Musso 2017 Barbaresco Pora DOCG

Italian Red
$88.99
Blue flower, baked plum and pipe tobacco lead a full, concentrated nose. The palate is firm but polished, layering dried cherry, steeped prune and liquorice over fine-grained tannins. Structured and composed, it balances savoury depth with measured fruit, carrying the darker notes through a persistent, clean finish.
