AboutMontevertine
Sergio Manetti bought Montevertine as a country house in 1967, planted two hectares of vines and equipped a small cellar. The first vintage followed in 1971. At roughly 425 metres in Radda in Chianti, the estate farms about eighteen hectares, mostly Sangiovese with smaller plantings of Canaiolo and Colorino.
The vineyards have been managed organically since 2009, with permanent grass, estate-made compost and limited copper and sulphur treatments. Grapes are picked by hand and fermented in glass-lined concrete; the wines are bottled by gravity without filtration. Le Pergole Torte, first made in 1977, is the estate’s pure-Sangiovese wine.
Montevertine 2017 Pian del Ciampolo Toscana IGT
Red fruit, strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, cassis, plum and floral notes define the profile. Sangiovese forms the blend with small amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino. The parcel covers 1.5 hectares and has an east-northeast exposure, producing a long growing season and complete grape maturation. The wine matures for eighteen months in large barrels and contains thirteen percent alcohol.
Montevertine 2011 Le Pergole Torte Toscana IGT
Sangiovese comes from historic vineyards planted between the late 1960s and late 1990s. Medium-dense ruby colour accompanies raspberry, sour cherry, strawberry, fennel and aniseed. The tannins are polished and fine-meshed, with juicy ripe raspberry and plum and a long finish. Fermentation takes place in concrete, followed by twelve months in Allier barriques and twelve months in Slavonian oak casks.
Montevertine 2021 Toscana Rosso
Enormously silky and smooth, this Tuscan red shows finesse and elegance. The cuvée uses 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in concrete tanks for about twenty-one days, and malolactic fermentation also occurs in concrete. Ageing covers twenty-four months in Slavonian oak and about three months in bottle. It carries the Toscana IGT designation.

Ripe black cherry, plum and dark berries lead a deep ruby nose, joined by liquorice, incense and quiet earthy smoke. The palate is generous and voluptuous yet kept lively by bright acidity. Firm, polished tannins frame the fruit, carrying underbrush and mineral detail into a long, composed finish.
