AboutMontenidoli

Elisabetta Fagiuoli and Sergio Muratori arrived at Montenidoli in 1965, taking on abandoned woodland and farmland across the hill facing San Gimignano and gradually returning it to productive life. Vernaccia grows on marine sediments with fossil shells near the cellar, while red grapes occupy the higher red-earth soils. The estate also grows Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Trebbiano Gentile and Malvasia Bianca.

Its certified-organic farming uses manure and cover crops for the soil, with weeds controlled mechanically and copper and sulphur used where needed. Cellar methods vary by wine, including glass-lined concrete, natural fermentation, skin contact for selected whites and ageing in bottle.

Montenidoli 2023 Tradizionale Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG

Italian White
$56.99
Herbs, almond and yellow orchard fruit lead a dry, savoury Vernaccia with a firm, gently tactile palate. Skin contact brings texture, while calcareous marine soils and ageing in glass-lined concrete keep the finish fresh and distinctly mineral. Serve chilled with fried fish, sushi, shellfish, vegetables or olive-oil-led Mediterranean dishes.
