AboutBodegas Menade
The Sanz family has worked with vines and wine around La Seca since 1820, through six generations of growers, coopers and merchants. Bodegas Menade was founded by the Sanz siblings in 2005. Secala-Menade 1820, the family’s underground cellar, was excavated into rock beneath La Seca early in the nineteenth century.
In the vineyards, cover crops, pollinator gardens and habitat for birds, insects and farm animals are used to encourage a living, balanced ecosystem. Solar panels supply most of the modern winery’s energy, and zero waste is an ongoing goal. Cellar work ranges from spontaneously fermented whites in stainless steel to wines made in clay and oak and a historic system of biological and oxidative solera ageing.
Menade 2021 Rueda Verdejo
Spanish White
A bright, dry Verdejo with white orchard fruit, fennel, bay leaf and wild herbs over a clear mineral note. The palate has good texture and volume, balanced by fresh acidity and a subtle varietal bitterness. Long and composed on the finish, it works well with grilled fish, shellfish, roast vegetables or dishes built around green herbs.
Menade 2019 La Mision Verdejo
Spanish White
A layered Verdejo with white flowers, ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel and fennel, followed by smoke and a quiet mineral note. The palate is textured yet vibrant, with bright acidity bringing focus to the generous fruit and savoury detail. Long and composed on the finish, it is well matched with roast fish, poultry, almonds or herb-led vegetable dishes.
