AboutMatt Dumayne
Winemaker Matt Dumayne makes Free Form, an Okanagan wine range launched in 2017, using organic grapes and native yeasts. Little or no sulphur is added, and the choice of concrete tanks, clay amphorae, skin contact and ageing varies with each lot. The range includes white, rosé, red and sparkling wines.
Vancouver artist Scott Sueme designed the labels, drawing on the Okanagan’s glacial landforms for abstract images printed on stone paper.
Free Form 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
Canadian Red
Pure and lifted, with red currant, raspberry and dark berry fruit shaped by a subtle savoury edge. The palate is dry and finely structured, bringing supple tannins, bright acidity and a delicate yet brooding depth without oak-driven weight. The finish is long and clean. Pair with roast lamb, grilled mushrooms, lentils or simply prepared beef.
Free Form 2019 Cabernet Franc
Canadian Red
Bold and complex, this Cabernet Franc layers dark plum and blackberry over smoke, mocha and classic herbal notes. The palate turns juicy with red fruit, supported by excellent structure and a fresh, mouthwatering finish. Concrete ageing keeps the fruit direct while spontaneous fermentation adds an unforced character. Pair with roasted game, grilled portobello mushrooms or a slow-cooked beef stew.
Free Form 2020 Vin Gris
Canadian White
Delicate fruit leads with poached pear, lemon and a subtle leesy note, followed by savoury herbs and gentle pepper spice. Whole-bunch pressing and concrete ageing give the palate a softly rounded, silky texture, while bright freshness and a faint saline, umami edge keep the dry finish lively, clean and quietly persistent.
