Matsui Shuzo is based in Kurayoshi, Tottori, where it operates the small Kurayoshi Distillery. Its team experiments with different casks for maturation and finishing.

That work includes cherry wood as well as wine and sherry casks. The distillery also draws on the soft water of the Mount Daisen area.
