Marques de Murrieta
Luciano de Murrieta began making Rioja wine in 1852 after learning from Bordeaux practices and adapting them to local grapes. The Ygay estate later became the physical centre of Marqués de Murrieta, combining vineyards and the restored Castillo de Ygay. The Cebrián-Sagarriga family acquired the winery in 1983 and continues the current ownership and management chapter.
The estate controls a large contiguous vineyard, while individual wines keep their own grape, parcel and ageing specifications. Historical exports and cellar milestones are documented by the producer, but reputation is not used as a substitute for factual evidence. Marqués de Murrieta remains anchored by the Ygay estate near Logroño and the Cebrián-Sagarriga family’s stewardship.

Spanish Red
Tempranillo accounts for eighty-one percent of the blend and Mazuelo for nineteen percent. Dried flowers, eucalyptus, smoke and violets accompany depth of fruit, concentration and fine tannins. The finish is elegant and ethereal. The grapes come from the La Plana vineyard in Rioja Alta and spend twenty-six months in 225-litre American and French oak barrels.

Exceptional and highly complex, showing layered aromas of black cherry, cassis and plum alongside dried flowers, cedar, tobacco and subtle balsamic and mineral notes. The palate is elegant yet powerful, with finely etched tannins, vibrant acidity and remarkable depth. Long ageing brings tertiary nuances of leather, spice and tea leaf, leading to a poised, endlessly persistent finish. A benchmark Rioja of outstanding finesse, structure and longevity.

Powerful yet refined, with aromas of blackberry, plum and cassis layered with dark chocolate, spice and subtle mineral notes. Full-bodied and richly textured, the palate is balanced by fresh acidity and polished tannins, leading to a long, elegant finish. A modern and age-worthy expression of Rioja.
