AboutMarjan Simčič
The Simčič family’s wine estate in Brda began with Jožef Simčič’s purchase of a farm in Medana in 1860. Marjan joined his father in directing the winery in 1988, and a new cellar at Ceglo followed in 1997. A sixth generation of the family is now involved.
The vineyards are worked by hand using organic and biodynamic methods. Brda’s opoka soils contain layers of marl, sandstone and slate, in a region shaped by both Alpine and Mediterranean influences.
Marjan Simčič 2023 Ribolla Brda Classic
Slovenian White
Bright pale straw with light-gold accents, this dry Ribolla carries poached pear, acacia and wild marjoram. Fine acidity accompanies light complexity and salinity. Fruit comes from Medana and Jordano vineyards at 200 to 250 metres on marl, slate and sandstone. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the wine spends six months on its yeasts in stainless steel followed by at least one month in bottle.
