Vancouver’s Luppolo Brewing Company and Chancho Tortilleria created Como Chanchos, a Mexican-style dark lager, together. Released in 2024, the beer followed a seven-year relationship that began when Chancho started serving Luppolo on draught. Chancho sourced corn from small independent farmers in Oaxaca for Luppolo to brew with. The brewing combined a cereal mash, gentle hopping and a long lagering period.

Raw and nixtamalized Oaxacan corn gives this dark lager a distinctive grain character, with aromas recalling warm corn tortilla and horchata. The palate is medium-bodied yet clean, carrying gentle roasted depth without losing its crisp lager shape. Made with Chancho Tortilleria, it feels considered and food-friendly. Serve well chilled with carnitas, grilled pork, tacos al pastor, roasted squash or mole.
