Luigi Pira
Luigi Pira
The Pira family has been connected with vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba since the late nineteenth century across several generations. Luigi Pira developed the estate-bottling domaine, and his son Gianpaolo later assumed responsibility for vineyard and cellar work. The holdings include Nebbiolo parcels in important Serralunga sites such as Marenca, Margheria and Vigna Rionda.
Barolo is the centre of the range, while Dolcetto and Barbera remain distinct wines within the family portfolio. Parcel identity and vintage guide the wines, with maturation adapted to each Barolo and bottling. The Pira family’s current range remains centred on Serralunga d’Alba and its Barolo crus.
Luigi Pira Vigna Rionda 2021 Barolo
Wild strawberry, dried cherry and blood orange lead a fragrant, finely layered bouquet. Rose, cinnamon, sweet tobacco and balsamic herbs add lift and complexity, while tar and mineral notes bring a darker counterpoint. The palate is dense yet controlled, with crisp acidity and firm, refined tannins shaping the ripe fruit. Long and vertical through the finish, it leaves red berries, mint, spice and a persistent stony note.
