AboutLuca Wines
Laura Catena founded Luca Wines in 1999 to help preserve Mendoza’s old vineyards. The name honours her son and echoes the Latin lucus, a sacred grove where old trees were protected from cutting.
Luca pays its small family growers by the hectare rather than by the ton and helps cover vineyard maintenance, supporting the continued cultivation of low-yielding old vines. Its long-standing vineyard relationships include ungrafted Malbec sites, while high-altitude parcels in Gualtallary supply Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Luca 2024 Pinot Noir
High-altitude Pinot Noir with wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry at the centre, shaded by orange peel, cola root, subtle leather and savoury spice. The palate is dry and medium-bodied, with vibrant acidity, fine structure and a composed, gently earthy finish. Twelve months in French oak adds polish and texture without overwhelming the fruit, preserving the wine’s energetic, elegant character.
Luca 2022 G-Lot Chardonnay
A polished Chardonnay with lemon zest, lime and green fruit layered over apricot, white flowers and a restrained touch of vanilla. The palate is creamy yet energetic, with firm acidity and a chalky mineral line bringing clarity to the ripe fruit and subtle baking spice. Balanced oak adds texture without obscuring the freshness, carrying the wine to a focused, gently savoury finish.
