AboutLagavulin Distillery
Lagavulin occupies a small bay on Islay’s south coast, close to the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle and a few miles from Port Ellen. Its official foundation dates to 1816 under John Johnston, though distilling in the area reaches back into Islay’s illicit eighteenth-century tradition. The distillery uses barley malted over Port Ellen peat and a notably slow distillation.

Fragrant peat smoke rises through dark oak, raisins and sweet wine, giving the nose depth without losing its coastal character. The palate is full and composed, with Pedro Ximénez-seasoned American oak bringing dark fruit and rounded sweetness to the distillery's smoke, saline notes and black pepper. A trace of mocha and charred wood adds savoury contrast. The finish is persistent and warming, returning to smoke, dried fruit, oak and sea salt. Serve neat, or add a few drops of water to open the sweeter layers.

Dense peat smoke meets dried fruit and vanilla, creating a dark, layered aroma. Salted caramel and a coastal edge give the palate depth, while dates and figs bring rounded sweetness. Briny notes keep that fruit and caramel from feeling heavy. The finish returns to peat smoke, dried fruit, salted caramel and maritime character, holding sweetness and coastal intensity in a firm, focused balance.
