AboutChampagne La Closerie (Jérôme Prévost)

Champagne La Closerie is the work of Agnès and Jérôme Prévost in Gueux, northwest of Reims, where the estate centres on Les Béguines. Jérôme took over his grandmother’s parcel in 1987; the first estate vintage followed in 1999, after years of friendship and guidance from Anselme Selosse. Les Béguines is a single two-hectare block on calcareous sand, planted mainly to Pinot Meunier, with smaller plantings of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Vineyard work is done by hand and the soils are cultivated; insecticides were abandoned in 1994 and herbicides in 1996. After spontaneous fermentation, the wines spend ten months on their full lees in wooden vessels before gravity bottling. The wines are extra brut.

Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Les Béguines NV Extra Brut Champagne

French Wine
$416.99
Golden in colour, with a fine mousse and an expressive smoky edge. Brioche, nectarine and lemon zest lead into chalk, wet stone and a subtle flinty note. The palate is taut and concentrated, driven by lemon oil, brisk freshness and firm linearity. Hints of honey and iron add depth without softening the mineral focus, and the finish remains long, bright and precise.
