JONATA was established in 1998 on a 600-acre site in Ballard Canyon, where 84 acres are planted to vines. Its name comes from a Chumash word for tall oak. Stanley Kroenke became sole owner in 2008, while winemaker Matt Dees has shaped the wines since the estate’s inaugural 2004 vintage.
The site has Careaga sandstone with pockets of loam and clay, and marked day-to-night temperature swings. Individual blocks are vinified separately, with barrel choices ranging from neutral to new oak according to the lot.

American Red
Blackberry and black cherry meet mesquite, black truffle, violet, pepper and five-spice in a richly aromatic red blend. The palate is smoky, generous and full-bodied, with a broad core of black fruit shaped by dusty, chewy tannins. Graphite, crushed rock and earthy detail add definition, leading to a long, chalky and balanced finish.
