AboutJohannes Zillinger

Johannes Zillinger works from a family farm in Velm-Götzendorf in Austria’s Weinviertel. Herbs, fruit trees, hedges and grazing animals are treated as working parts of the farm, creating habitat while returning nutrients to the soil.

His vineyards include old vines and cool parcels on limestone and sandstone. Cellar work includes spontaneous fermentation and lees ageing, with wood, stainless steel or amphora used according to the wine.

Johannes Zillinger 2023 Velue Weiss

Austrian White
$42.99
Jasmine, rose, yellow apple, kiwi and herbal notes share the aromatic profile. The palate is juicy, with ripe fruit, fine tannins and vivid acidity, followed by a salty finish. Half Grüner Veltliner is joined by equal quarter portions of Riesling and Gelber Muskateller. Part of the fruit is whole-bunch pressed, while other lots are destemmed or foot-trodden before nine months on lees.

Johannes Zillinger 2023 Reflexion K* Grüner Veltliner

Austrian White
$46.99
Bright orchard fruit and stone fruit appear with green apple, light pepper, mild salinity and a touch of lactic richness. A light fizz is present, and the finish is savoury, mineral and long. Grüner Veltliner provides the full composition from three vineyards. One lot matures in an old wooden barrel, another in stainless steel, and the third is vinified in a one-thousand-litre amphora.
