AboutJacopo Biondi Santi

Jacopo Biondi Santi makes wine at Castello di Montepò, a medieval estate near Scansano in the Maremma. Fifty of its roughly six hundred hectares are planted to vines, amid woods and olive groves. Sangiovese Grosso BBS11, the family selection linked to the development of Brunello, is central to the vineyard.

The vines grow on south- and southwest-facing slopes between about 300 and 460 metres, in clay-schist soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, and the red wines mature in French oak.

Forest floor, camphor and Mediterranean scrub lead the nose, with hazelnut adding a quiet savoury note. The palate is linear and light on its feet, showing dried cherry, blood orange and grilled sage. Taut, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity carry the wine into a poised, gently spiced finish.
