Jack Daniel’s has made Tennessee whiskey in Lynchburg since the nineteenth century, with the distillery officially registered in 1866. Nathan ‘Nearest’ Green taught the young Jack Daniel to distil and became the operation’s first master distiller. Jack’s nephew Lem Motlow later led the distillery through Prohibition, and the Motlow family transferred it to the Brown family in 1956.
Its Tennessee whiskey uses iron-free water from Cave Spring Hollow, with new spirit mellowed drop by drop through ten feet of hard sugar-maple charcoal. The whiskey matures in new charred oak barrels.
