AboutJ. Bouchon
Bouchon’s Chilean story began in 1887, when Émile Bouchon left his family’s small vineyard near Bordeaux and sailed to Chile as a winemaking consultant. His grandson Julio acquired the Mingre estate in Maule in 1977, with its old dry-farmed vines, decomposed granite and traditional adobe cellar. The winery joined Undurraga Wine Group in 2024.
Bouchon’s vineyards include Mingre, Batuco and Santa Rosa. The cellar uses concrete tanks, French oak casks and barrels, and clay amphorae. País, Carignan and Sémillon are among the grape varieties it works with.
J. Bouchon 2022 Block Series Sémillon
Chilean White
White and stone fruit accompany floral, smoky, herbal and spice notes. Refreshing acidity meets a firm, creamy texture. The finish is long and unctuous, with citrus, peach, pear, dried fruit and honey. Made entirely from Sémillon, the fruit comes from Blocks 1 and 16 of a more-than-eighty-year-old vineyard at Batuco. Half the wine ferments and matures in stainless steel and half in oak for six months.
