House of Metaxa
House of Metaxa
AboutHouse of Metaxa
The House of Metaxa began in Piraeus in 1888, when Spyros Metaxa created a Greek amber spirit by marrying sweet Muscat wines with aged wine distillates. His wife Despina and their sons continued the house after his death in 1909, carrying the family recipe into an increasingly international business. Production moved to Kifissia in 1968, and the house joined Rémy Cointreau in 2000.
Its amber spirit combines Muscat wines from Samos with mature wine distillates and a preparation of Mediterranean herbs and botanicals. The house bought its own Samos vineyard in 2017 and began converting it to organic farming.

Greek Other Spirits
Dried fruit, gentle oak, nuts and dried flowers open a layered, mellow aroma, with sweet spice, honey and toffee adding warmth. The palate brings plum, white raisins and liquorice across a smooth, rounded texture. Nutmeg and oak give the sweetness definition before a sustained finish of honeyed fruit and soft spice. Serve neat or over a large cube after dinner.
