Hope Estate 2018 Basalt Block Shiraz

Blackberry and plum meet pepper, cedar, olives, bay leaf, vanilla and a stony charcoal note. The fruit is juicy, with balanced acidity and a medium-plus body. The single-vineyard wine is made entirely from Shiraz grown on red, basalt-rich soils in the Hunter Valley. It matures for thirteen months in a mix of new and old French hogsheads.

Crisp and focused, opening with lime, lemon and green apple over a clean, lightly textured palate. Bright acidity gives the wine drive and clarity, making the youthful citrus character especially refreshing. With bottle age, the style is expected to develop gentle toast and added savoury complexity while retaining its freshness. A natural choice for oysters, simply prepared shellfish, grilled white fish or fresh goat cheese.
