AboutHewitson
Hewitson is led by owner and winemaker Dean Hewitson, whose oenology training at Roseworthy and UC Davis was followed by vintages in France and the United States. The estate sits on Seppeltsfield Road beside the Para River in the Barossa Valley, with fruit sourced from estate holdings and long-standing specialist growers. At Old Garden in Rowland Flat, eight rows of Mourvèdre planted in 1853 survive on their own roots, without irrigation.
Hewitson propagates selected vines from Old Garden for new plantings. In the cellar, French oak is chosen for a subtle influence on the wines.
Hewitson 2021 Old Garden Mourvèdre
Australian Red
Blueberry, raspberry and black cherry rise with heady spice, mint and a measured touch of mocha. Plump and silky on the palate, it balances succulent fruit with bright acidity and soft, spicy tannins, while dark chocolate and herbs add savoury depth. Generous without heaviness, it pairs naturally with lamb shank, game or slow-cooked beef.
