AboutHenschke

Henschke’s story reaches back to 1868, when Johann Christian Henschke released the family’s first commercial wine in the Eden Valley, beginning a tradition now carried through six generations. Fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and viticulturist Prue Henschke have led the estate since 1979, with sixth-generation Johann Henschke now part of the winemaking team. The family works across the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.

Hill of Grace is central to that history: its oldest Shiraz vines were planted around 1860, and the Henschkes acquired the vineyard in 1891. Cyril Henschke first made Hill of Grace in 1958; the vineyard includes own-rooted, dry-grown old vines. The estate uses organic and biodynamic practices in its vineyards.
